I would like to correct the misinformation that the Friends of the Council on Aging have solely funded the new position of outreach coordinator.

The position will be funded through a formula grant, another grant obtained by the diligent effort of the Council on Aging director, John Oelfke, and $5,000 from the Friends of the Council on Aging.

The position is not that of a town employee, but of a contract worker under the director and the town administrator. Shirley taxpayers will bare no cost for this position.

We are very proud that the Friends, through the particular efforts of Fred and Claudette Williams, are able to commit to a level of support to help underwrite a portion of the salary of an outreach coordinator for three-five years.

I gladly acknowledge that we built on a strong foundation put in place the past several years by a very dedicated Council on Aging, its director and many volunteers.
