What might sound like a tongue twister of sorts is really more of a rally call from the Friends of Pepperell. The group is closing in on the first phase of installations for the new Town Field play area scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.

Bikes, bikes, and more bikes are still needed for the April 17 Used Bike Sale at the Community Center. According to event organizer Sue Boswell, the event has produced nearly 600 donated bikes, scooters, strollers and skateboards over the years.

The Friends of Pepperell encourage everyone to clean out sheds, garages, basements, even help out-of-town friends and family tidy up this spring while donating to a worthy cause.

“This year, we hope to start the day off with at least 100 ride-on toys, tricycles, scooters, strollers, big wheels and of course bikes,” said Boswell.

Gently used and outgrown bikes are welcome in any size. In addition to offering a great selection of “pedal power” at a reasonable price, this effort to reuse and recycle also keeps hundreds of items from entering landfills.

The Bike Sale will begin at 9 a.m. and bikes donations will be accepted by appointment call 978-835-0133, and at the Community Center on April 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. as well as the day of sale beginning at 7 a.m.

The group would like to thank everyone who helped kick off the hand-print mural fundraiser during the town’s egg hunt. Close to 100 colorful hand prints now adorn the wall of the Community Center and many more are expected as groups, such local Scouting troops, and individuals continue to express interest.

The Town Wide Yard Sale will also be held in conjunction with the Used Bike Sale. All proceeds will benefit the Playground Project. Donations of any size are welcome and those wishing to contribute on a larger scale may sponsor the purchase of a bench, swings, entire play piece, or other needed items.

Boswell would like to recognize the continued efforts and commitment by the group, many of whom have eying this goal for about four years. Friends of Pepperell members include Denene Premus, Godelief Gomperts, Barbara Stone, Chris Skirkey, Christine Kelleher, Jessica Boccelli, Alison Bagley and Heather Zacharakis.
