Charity motorcycle ride to support Mommies Mobil Meals May 23

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

The ride is planned for Sunday, May 23. Registration is at 9 a.m at Harbor Autobody in Townsend. Kickstands up at 10 a.m. The 70-mile ride departs Townsend for Southern New Hampshire, then ending back in Townsend at Bailey’s Bar and Grille. A rain date is still to be determined.

All motorcyclists are welcome. $20 donation per rider, $10 per passenger. All of the proceeds go towards supporting Mommies Mobil Meals’ ongoing efforts in assisting families in our community.

This group of women — at last count was 72 members, from their Web site — donate their time to assist a family with ready made, home cooked meals. A “mommy” takes an evening and drops off a dish to the nominated family. Reasons for nominations have varied from illness or ailment, a birth or death in the family, as a thank-you, a pick-me-up or simply just a night off from cooking. The group also delivers baked goods to the new Senior Center, monthly, for bingo.

The “Need to Feed” doesn’t end with meals alone. Money raised from within the group itself is used to purchase gift cards to local shops and supermarkets for families that have succumbed to some disaster. Additionally, gas cards and parking passes to area hospitals have been given to families visiting loved ones in the hospital.
