PEPPERELL — Allan A. Ludwig of Brookline Street, Pepperell, died on March 27 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was born on Oct. 26, 1928, son of the late Albert and Fannie (Sawyer) Ludwig of Chelmsford. He was 81 years of age. He attended the Chelmsford School System and graduated from Atlantic Air Academy in Rye Beach, N.H., where he played in all major sports. Al also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
His entire career was spent in the construction business. He built homes in the Greater Lowell area and spent many years at San-Vel Concrete Corp as a superintendent. Mr. Ludwig retired from Colonial Gas Co. while working in the Maintenance Department Office. He spent three years on Chelmsford Planning Board serving one year as chairman. He was also a member of the Chelmsford Fire Department, Box 7, a volunteer group.
Surviving him are his wife Susanne (Powers) (Harris) Ludwig of Pepperell, a daughter Cheryl Ludwig, a son Glenn Ludwig, a nephew Phillip Ludwig of Kennebunk, Maine, two stepdaughters Ann Louise Harris of Minnesota, Margaret Freeman of Gardner, two stepsons Harold D. Harris of Nashua, N.H., and Michael Harris of Milford, N.H. and one grandchild Megan Freeman. He was the brother of the late Robert S. Ludwig of Kennebunkport, Maine. He also leave four step-grandchildren: Wendy Knight and Holly Holloway, of Virginia, Faith Reipold and Alan Freeman of Massachusetts.
A funeral service was held at the Badger Funeral Home in Groton, on Thursday, April 1. Burial was at Lowell Cemetery in Lowell. Please see www.badgerfuneral.com.
