School Superintendent Thomas Jefferson bypassed in bid for North Shore post

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

BOXFORD — The Masconomet Regional School Committee voted to offer Tyngsboro Superintendent Darrell Lockwood the superintendent’s position on Saturday. Lockwood received 10 votes, while another finalist, Harvard School Superintendent Thomas Jefferson, received one.

The Saturday session was held after the School Committee deadlocked on earlier votes.

The Masconomet job was advertised as paying between $160,000 and $180,000, according to Jon Spencer, a member of the school committee and chairman of the subcommittee that organized the search for a new superintendent.

Masconomet is made up of about 2,100 students in grades 7 through 12 from the towns of Topsfield, Middleton and Boxboro.

Lockwood has been in Tyngsboro since July of 2008. Lockwood makes $142,000 annually in Tyngsboro.
