Focusing on Rep. Race

AYER — Selectmen Chairman Cornelius “Connie” Sullivan announced at the outset of the Tue., Feb. 16 board meeting that he will not be seeking to run again this spring when his present term lapses. Sullivan said simply, “I want to announce that I will not be running for reelection for selectmen” before equally succinctly encouraging “folks to pull papers” to gather nomination signatures to earn a spot on the April 26 Town Election ballot.

After the meeting, Sullivan added “I’ve really enjoyed these past 12 years” aboard the selectmen but noted he wouldn’t be able to give “100%” at a time that he’s already announced his run to succeed First Middlesex District Rep. Robert Hargraves of Groton. That primary is September 14 with the general election November 2. Sullivan, a Groton attorney, was first to announce as a Republican contender for the seat late last summer. Groton/Harvard attorney Sheila Harrington announced last October and earned the endorsement of Hargraves in her run to succeed him in the House.
