I would like to congratulate Marie, and ask everyone to join me in supporting her as our new selectman. Marie has embraced fiscal conservatism and has vowed to “hit the ground running” for collaborative, yet decisive, action. Let us all task her and the other selectmen to indeed do so, before the lingering challenges that face us get any harder, or the opportunities in front of us slip away. We should expect no less.
For me personally, this has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I have met so many new people with diverse viewpoints, a wealth of experience, and a deep passion for our community. I intend to keep contributing to the Town, and now have an expanded network of talented and caring folks to collaborate with.
I am left as unenamored with politics as when I started. I find it a strange and sometimes disconcerting bedfellow to public service. I am proud of the open and respectful campaign that we ran, and the focus I put on reaching out broadly to learn, educate and include. To me, this will always be more important than a focus on winning a contest.
I want to publicly thank the many people that put so much time and energy into helping me, especially my wife Laura, who put her life on hold the past few months to support me.
