GARDNER — The season opener for any team can set the tone, and the Groton-Dunstable boys cross country team was impressive in their 2009 lid-lifter. The Crusaders picked up a MidWach B victory on the road in impressive fashion by racing past Gardner, 16-39.

The Crusaders put this one in the victory column quickly, placing the first four runners across the finish line.

Joe Biasi finished on top over the 2.6-mile course with a clocking of 15:42. Garrett Partridge (second, 15:44), and Kevin Thompson and Jared Sheehy (tied for third, 16:03) put the Crusaders into commanding position.

Jon Edwin’s sixth-place finish (16:21) sealed the deal.

Josh Bouchia was the top finisher for the Wildcats, fifth with a time of 16:17.

Also finishing in the top 10 for Groton-Dunstable was Luke Latario, who finished 10th with a time of 16:48.

The Crusaders will next be in action when they host MidWach B rival Quabbin on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
