FITCHBURG — Buoyed by some outstanding individual efforts, both the Groton-Dunstable and North Middlesex girls track teams finished in the top 10 at the MIAA Central Track and Field Tournament on Saturday.
Groton-Dunstable finished eighth with 26 points while North Middlesex was 10th with 24 points. Bromfield finished on top with 53 points, edging Wachusett (49) and Algonquin (48).
Senior Eva Mahan picked up the lone first-place finish for Groton-Dunstable, capturing the discus with a toss of 112-6.
Sophomore Sarah Hilton of the Lady Crusaders earned a second-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 12.95.
Rounding out the scoring for Groton-Dunstable were fourth-place finishes by senior Heather Hoglund (800 meters, 2:24.21) and sophomore Micaela Lacombe (mile, 5:16.05).
A pair of North MIddlesex girls struck gold to propel the Lady Pats to their strong showing.
Senior Alicia Ryan continued her tremendous season as she prevailed in the 100 meters with a clocking of 12.85.
Freshman Andrea Fanciullo turned in a sensational effort in capturing the long jump with a leap of 17-5.75.
The final points for North Middlesex came from the 4 X 100 relay team, which finished fourth with a time of 51.13.
