PEPPERELL — The Pepperrell Cultural Council has awarded grants totaling $4,400 for programs during the 2009 calendar year.

The grants were awarded from a pool of funds distributed by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency that supports public programs and educational activities in the arts, sciences and humanities.

This year’s events funded in whole or in part are as follows:

* Fitchburg Art Museum, 74th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft;

* Lawrence Library, Patriot Fife & Drum Duo;

* Lawrence Library, Starship Mime-Space Adventure Summer 2009;

* Lawrence Library, A Constellation of Stories and Song

* Lawrence Library, Comic Art with Andy Fish – Find Out What’s Out There;

* Gregory Maichack, Monet’s Magic Garden;

* John Mankita, Eat Like A Rainbow;

* Pepperell Council on Aging, Programs for Seniors;

* JohnRoot, Edible Wild Plants of the Northeast.

The Pepperell Cultural Council is part of a grass-roots network of 329 local councils that serve every city and town in the state. The program is the largest, most decentralized one of its kind in the United States. The state Legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, which then allocates funds to each local council. Decisions about which activities to support are made at the community level by a board of municipally appointed volunteers.

The Pepperell Cultural Council will again seek grant applications in the fall for the 2010 calendar year. Information and forms are available at Lawrence Library or online at the Massachusetts Cultural Council Web site — www.mass-culture.org — and are due Oct. 15..

The Pepperell Cultural Council welcomes new members. If you have an interest in joining, call Linda Shaw at 978-433-0231.
