This letter is in response to several articles that have been written regarding the Groton Community School’s proposed expansion.

To clarify, Groton Community School is just beginning the process of site approval for a potential expansion. The school is exploring the possibility of enhancing its space for both staff and family use of the premises. The school does not have plans to increase its enrollment at this time.

Instead, GCS is exploring proposals to improve the children’s library, add a parent-teacher conference room, install additional adult bathrooms and build a larger staff room. These proposals also include a larger multi-purpose room that could be used for school plays and other events, as well as public functions.

This approval process is a lengthy one that involves several hearings before both the Conservation Commission and the Planning Board. If approval is obtained, GCS will have the option of renewing any building permit issued every three years as the school explores the expansion process further down the road.

Thank you for this opportunity to clarify Groton Community School’s plans to “explore” possible expansion to enhance the use of our children’s center.
