As many of you know, years ago our then state senator (Bob Durand) sponsored a district wide Senior Conference to inform and benefit the seniors in his senate district. This tradition has been passed on to succeeding state senators and this year, Sen. Jamie Eldridge will continue the tradition. The event will be held on Thursday, April 23 at the Assasbet Valley Tech School in Marlboro. Tickets are free but required.

Those from Shirley, who have attended in the past will tell you that it is an enjoyable, informative and “lucrative” event. The conference is a daylong series of workshops such as elder care, taxes, computer training, financial planning, “Ask the Lawyer,” and on the changes to the prescription plans like “Prescription Advantage.”

There will be health events like blood pressure, paraffin wax treatments for your hands, a talk on healthy eating, health screenings, etc. and entertainment. Seniors may attend any and all of the sessions.

In addition to entertainment, coffee and bagels, a free lunch, etc will be provided and MANY MANY door prizes will be awarded. Last year the over 25 seniors from Shirley who attended enjoyed themselves and brought home many gifts and helpful information.

We urge as many of the seniors in town to attend as is possible. If you want to go, please give us a call and we will secure tickets. Tell your friends, invite them as well. You can drive down to Marlboro yourselves (Assabet Valley Tech School is located just off rte 495 near the rte 85/290 exit) or, if there is enough interest, the COA will work to make a bus available so you can relax on your trip there and back.

Please call early if you would like to ride the bus so we can get the appropriately sized bus.

This is a fun and informative time and well worth the trip. Give us a call at 978-425-2600 X285, ask for Jean or I, and we will reserve you a ticket.
