DEVENS — The Joint Boards of Selectmen (JBOS) unanimously appointed the Vicksburg Square Zoning Subcommittee. The group will begin meeting with MassDevelopment to discuss the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the redevelopment of the Vicksburg Square complex.

Ayer selectmen Gary Luca and James Fay and Harvard selectmen Peter Warren and Ron Ricci will join Devens Committee member Philip Crosby and a Shirley selectman (not yet appointed) on the subcommittee to work with MassDevelopment.

Both Harvard Selectman Lucy Wallace and Ayer Chairman Carolyn McCreary stated they would like members of their towns’ planning boards involved in the discussions.

McCreary suggested the subcommittee be tasked with reviewing the RFP and help MassDevelopment finalize the document as well as review proposals received in response to the RFP.

“We also have to keep in mind that we will need the towns’ vote on rezoning to move forward,” Wallace said. “The subcommittee should also advise the JBOS on the rezoning so the board can schedule a super town meeting.”

Harvard Chairman Leo Blair said MassDevelopment was interested in meeting with the subcommittee right way.

“They’re definitely in a hurry-up mode on this,” he said. — Gayle Simone
