I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to Dr. Maureen Marshall, superintendent of North Middlesex Regional School District for the exceptional communication and outreach offered throughout the power outages caused by the recent ice storm.
As a family with two school-age children who endured four days without electricity, water or phone, we were really thankful for Dr. Marshall’s efforts to keep the community updated about shelter available throughout the towns. The school cancellation information sent through all types of venues was especially helpful.
We were fortunate enough to stay with family in town but many families I talked with did stay out of town with family or friends or in hotels. I am sure many families, like us, appreciated knowing in advance when the next update would come so we could plan ahead.
I can only imagine how difficult and time-consuming it is to come to a decision that is reasonable for all three towns in the district. But through it all, Dr. Marshall has shown that her main focus was the safety of the children, staff and families of the NMRSD.
In closing, thank you, Dr. Marshall, for not only the academic improvements we have seen over the past few years, but also for your ability to make those difficult decisions that are necessary to keep our children safe.
