Sunday, Dec. 14

Christmas pageant: Harvard’s annual town Christmas Pageant presented by the children of the town’s three center churches and their friends will be held at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. in the Unitarian Church. Doors open at 3:15 and 4:20, respectively. Reserved seating for senior citizens only at the first performance. From 4 to 5:30 p.m., music will be provided by young Harvard musicians at Fellowship Hall at the Congregational Church. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served after both performances from 4 to 6 p.m. Hayrides sponsored by the Harvard Park and Recreation Commission will begin at 4 p.m. The lighting of the town Christmas tree on the Common with a candlelight Carol sing and music by the Town Band will following the pageant’s second performance. Please be at the Common by 5:15 p.m.

Mitten Tree

Harvard Girl Scouts continue their tradition of helping others this holiday season with the Mitten Tree. The tree will be in the children’s room of the Harvard Public Library from until Dec. 17. Everyone is encouraged to stop by and decorate the tree with a new pair of gloves or mittens (adult and child sizes). The mittens will be taken to Loaves & Fishes food pantry for distribution. Calendar sales

The 2008-2009 Harvard Community Calendar is on sale. The calendars include dates for important civic and schools events as well as photographs of Harvard taken by local ,photographers. calendars are $15 with proceeds to benefit the Harvard PTO. Fuel assistance

The town of Harvard has an energy assistance fund to help low-income residents with their energy costs. Eligible residents may apply to the Harvard fund after applying for federal and state aid. Applications will be available at Town Hall or the COA office. For more information on all options for fuel assistance, please call Town Hall or the COA.

Save the date

Join the Harvard Conservation Trust for its Annual New Year’s Day Walk at noon on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, in the Delaney Wildlife Management Area. Meet in Stow at the parking lot by Harvard Road Boat Ramp between October Lane and Kirkland Drive for cookies and hot cocoa. Join friends from Harvard, Bolton and Stow for a hike (skis or snowshoes OK, weather permitting) with an eye for winter wildlife tracking. Plan to walk — rain, snow or shine. Family friendly.
