A World Flutes Story Concert by Werner John: Sunday, Nov. 23, 4 p.m. at the Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church, Routes 110/111, Harvard. Join Werner John, musician and storyteller, in discovering an American holiday that could transform the world! This narrative will shed light on the intense challenges and blessings of our time. Flute by flute it touches on genetics, archaeology, human geography and environmental science while gently inviting the ancient impulse of gratitude into the present time. Native and European instruments are featured in “A Thanksgiving Suite.” This is an event for the entire family. Admission is $10; children are half price. Sponsored by the Music Committee.

Housing Authority: 7:30 p.m., Hildreth House

Garden Club: The Garden Club of Harvard will begin its luncheon meeting at 11:15 a.m. This month’s program, “Flowers from Garden and Market-Shore and Wood,” features Joan Parker, winner for Best Garden in North Region Flower Growers Association Contest. Her presentation starts at 12:15 p.m. The Harvard Garden Club meets the last Monday of every month at St. Theresa’s Church, 15 Still River Road, Harvard. Meetings are free and open to the public. Holiday Plant Sale: Don’t miss your chance to get a beautiful poinsettia, cyclamen, Christmas cactus, or holiday arrangement at Fanfare’s annual Holiday Plant Sale during parent-teacher conference days at both Harvard Elementary and The Bromfield Schools. New this year are two sizes of Thanksgiving table centerpieces. Prices for items range from $12 to 40.

Harvard Elementary sale hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Bromfield sale hours are noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m. on both days. Whether you have students in the school or not, all are welcome to stop by our sale. Questions may be directed to Jan Steranka at (978) 456-3718.

Fanfare is a parent and community organization dedicated to supporting quality music education at Harvard Elementary School and The Bromfield School. With funds raised from membership and the annual Holiday Plant sale, Fanfare provides support for materials, instruments, equipment, and special projects in the school music programs.

Holiday Arts Festival and Sale at the Old Library

The Holiday Arts Festival and Sale opens with a gala celebration on Friday, Dec. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. with refreshments and music, and continues on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Old Library in Harvard Center. Bring your shopping list to choose unique gifts of photography, painting, jewelry, sculpture, pottery, soaps, crafts, gourmet items, fiber and textiles, cards, antiques, silver, and decorations. Among the more than 20 artisans are Barry Van Dusen, internationally known bird artist; Robin Martell, mixed media artist; Abby Alpert of Gingersnap Bakery’s elegant desserts; Pat Hatch’s antique silver; Amy Jackson’s jewelry treasures; Irene Mannix’s preserves and shortbreads; and many other exciting exhibits. The sale benefits the Harvard Historical Society.

Harvard Woman’s Club Hosts Annual Holiday Luncheon and Auction

Members and guests are invited to attend the Harvard Woman’s Club annual holiday luncheon and fundraising auction at St. Theresa’s parish hall Monday, Dec. 1 beginning promptly at 10:30 a.m., an hour earlier than regular meeting times.

On offer in both the silent and live auction will be theater tickets, photographs and paintings by Harvard artists, a handmade basket by Julie Chadwick, a crib-size quilt made by Barbara Weiss, holiday cookies and other gourmet items, gift baskets, jams and jellies by Irene Mannix, and a hand-painted Shaker box made by Sue Barber.

The luncheon will begin at 11 a.m. and features holiday fare and old club favorites.

Members are invited to bring a new, unwrapped gift (with a value between $10 and $25) to contribute to the Loaves & Fishes’ "Shop for Your Parents" program.

The calendars include dates for important civic and schools events as well as photographs of Harvard taken by local ,photographers. calendars are $15 with proceeds to benefit the Harvard PTO. Available through October, calendars can be purchased at Harvard Cleaners, Sorrentos, Westward Orchards and the General Store.
