Thanksgiving Eve service: The United Church of Shirley will be holding a Thanksgiving Eve Service at 7:30 p.m. on Weds., Nov. 26. The purpose of the service is to take time to give thanks. There will be a time of scripture reading, singing, testimony, and prayer. A message will be shared and communion will be served. The church is located at the corner of Harvard and Lancaster Roads. All are welcome.

Christmas Extravaganza Craft Fair: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., St. Anthony of Padua Parish; The Craft Fair has become a popular venue for Christmas shopping in the area, with talented crafters from all over Massachusetts in attendance. The selection of handmade crafts is extensive and includes wood crafts, quilted items, scrapbooks, country crafts, many Christmas items, rag bags, glassware and much more. In addition to the crafts a small portion of the hall is dedicated to new children’s’ toys, books, games, puzzles, and gently used Christmas decorations and gifts. If you would like to participate as a crafter please call the church office at 978-425-4588 days and 978-425-4604 evenings for an application.

Unless otherwise noted, meetings are held at Town Offices, Keady Way. As an energy-saving measure this winter, most board meetings will be held on three evenings: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Building is closed on Friday.

Rick Goldin in concert

The Shirley Early Childhood School Readiness Community Council will present Rick Goldin and his friends in a free family-friendly concert on Sat., Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. in the Lura A. White School Gym. Children love his live performances because they get to sing, dance and jump along with Rick and his singing animal puppets! This concert is suitable for children ages 3 to 5 and their families. It’s sponsored by the Yankee Candle Fund-raiser.

Rockapella is a five-man American a cappella musical group, originally made famous by their appearances on the children’s television game show “Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?” Since those early days, the group has appeared on the Today Show, recorded Folgers commercials, sung with the Boston Pops, and toured the world giving concerts in Germany and recording albums in Japan. In December they will perform in North Central Massachusetts, doing a Holiday Concert at the Shirley Middle School.

The program on Weds., Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. is a fund-raiser for the Shirley Meetinghouse and the local arts group ShirleyArts! Seats are all reserved, so get your tickets now! The price is only $25, and the parking is free. Intro to Shirley history

There have been many new houses built in Shirley in the last 10 years and those homeowners may not know a lot about the Shirley history of which they are now a part. The Shirley Historical Society will have a special program to introduce folks to a timeline of Shirley History on Saturday December 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Museum at #182 Center Road. The timeline will be illustrated with old photos of Shirley and samples from new and old Shirley businesses. All are welcome to attend the program or to visit the Museum any Monday or Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to see the display.

Friendship Fund needs names

The Shirley Friendship Fund is currently accepting applications for children under 10 Christmas gifts . The fund also provides family food baskets at Christmas time. Forms are easy to fill out and are available at the LAW & SHIRLEY Middle schools’ office. Forms or information can be mailed to the Shirley Friendship Fund, P.O. Box 564, Shirley 01464. Families must be residents of Shirley. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 28.
