I would like to thank the voters of the 37th Middlesex District for electing me to represent them in the Statehouse.
I started this journey almost a year ago with a phone call. While I was saying why I wouldn’t run for this seat, my daughter Hannah was listening. When I got off the phone, she said, “If you aren’t willing to do it, who will. We need regular people like you to do this.”
I realized she was right, and still is. We all need to be willing to make a difference, to serve our community in some way, big or small, because that is what community, and democracy, is about. That’s why I ran, and I knew regardless of outcome I had done the right thing.
We have run a strong and respectful campaign based on issues we heard about from the people in this district. We heard about the economy and jobs, public education and the environment, and the importance of affordable and accessible healthcare. That’s what my family cares about, too.
I believe in service. I have devoted my adult life to serving others, first my family then my community. I look forward to serving my greater community, this district, and am humbled by your faith in me. But this campaign was never about me, one person, but about how we can work together. I look forward to working with you for the next two years.
I want to thank everyone who voted today, whether for me or not. Thank you for taking the time to be a part of this wonderful day — a tribute to our democracy.
