Christmas Extravaganza Craft Fair
St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Shirley will be holding their annual Christmas Extravaganza Craft Fair and More on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the church hall. The Craft Fair has become a popular venue for Christmas shopping in the area, with talented crafters from all over Massachusetts in attendance. The selection of handmade crafts is extensive, and includes wood crafts, quilted items, scrapbooks, country crafts, many Christmas items, rag bags, glassware, and much more. In addition to the crafts a small portion of the hall is dedicated to new childrens’ toys, books, games, puzzles, and gently used Christmas decorations and gifts. If you would like to participate as a crafter please call the church office at (978) 425-4588 days and (978) 425-4604 evenings for an application.
Senior drop-in center to open
The Shirley Council on Aging is pleased to announce that conference rooms A and B of the town offices on Keady Way will be utilized as a Senior Drop-in Center starting in November. Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday unless the building is closed for a holiday. A grand opening was held on Wednesday, Nov. 6 with normal operation beginning on Thursday, Nov. 13.
This endeavor will provide seniors the opportunity to socialize and discuss important (and maybe not so important) issues of the day while enjoying a cup of coffee and/or other light refreshment. Puzzles, cards and board games will also be available. Periodically there will be various speakers and programs scheduled as we become more experienced with the interests of our senior community
The council wishes to thank the Board of Selectmen and the town administrator for allowing us this opportunity, with a special thanks to a member of the Library Trustees for the suggestion.
Save the Date
Tickets are now on sale for a holiday concert by Rockapella, which will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the Shirley Middle School.
ShirleyArts! and the Shirley Meetinghouse are sponsoring this concert as a fund-raiser for their groups with a ticket price of $25 for a reserved seat. These two nonprofit groups are very grateful to the Shirley Charitable Foundation for their generous contribution to the project.
Ticket order forms are available at Hazen Library and at the town clerk’s office or by e-mailing email@example.com. Tickets are also on sale at the Shirley Historical Society Museum on Mondays and Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. with payment by cash, check or money order.
Rockapella is the premiere a capella men’s singing group, first made famous on the children’s television show “Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?” They went on to tour college campuses across the country, film commercials, sing with the Boston Pops, and tour Japan and Germany. They performed in Shirley two years ago to a very appreciative audience. Go to www.rockapella.com to learn more about the music of these five talented guys.
