TOWNSEND — The Townsend United Methodist Church will host the lawn party at the Townsend Military Band’s Thursday evening, July 10 band concert on the Townsend Common. Church members will be serving baked beans and potato salad in addition to hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and sausages. Fried dough, fruit salad, chips, hot coffee, cold soda and bottled water will also be available for purchase. A variety of homebaked goods will be offered for sale.
Children attending the concert may play in the moonwalk and try their luck at the ring toss game, fishing game and bean bag toss game set up on the common that evening.
The Townsend Military Band will open its program at 7:30 p.m. by playing a fanfare and the “Procession of the Nobles” by Rimsky-Korsakov. Gershwin’s “Symphonic,” Debussy’s “Golliwog’s Cake Walk,” and the “Golden Ear” by San Miguel will be performed. The “First Suite in Eb” by Holst, Bernstein’s “West Side Story” and the “Free Lancer” march by Sousa will be played prior to intermission.
“Themes Like Old Times II,” “Gypsy” by Styne and Fillmore’s “Lassus Trombone” will be presented during the second portion of the concert. “God Bless America” and Grafulla’s “Washington Greys” march will be performed before the Townsend Military Band concludes its concert at 9:30 p.m. by playing the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
