Memorial tree

On July 12, at 1 p.m., former Groton-Dunstable students will plant a memorial tree on the grounds of the new Groton High School, 703 Chicopee Road, Groton. The tree will be planted to commemorate classmates and faculty of the Groton-Dunstable school system who have passed away. A brief ceremony will include prayer by local clergy and the dedication of a permanent rock marker near the tree.

The graduating class of 1978 organized the tribute, which will be held the same weekend as a class reunion for GDRSS Class of ’78. The DeCilio Family, owners of the Groton Nursery, Route 225, West Groton, have donated a flowering plum tree.

All families and friends of deceased Groton-Dunstable students and teachers are welcome and encouraged to attend this memorial service. For more information, contact Jay Willets at (978) 772-0860.

Vacation Bible

“Surf’s up” at the 2008 Vacation Bible School to be held Aug. 12-14, 9 a.m. to noon, at Union Congregational Church in Groton. Children will be surfin’ through the scriptures with a fun beach party theme. This three-day program is open to children entering grades one through six and costs $15 per child. Senior van service

The new van has been delivered to the Groton Senior Center and is ready for service.

The van will run three days per week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Local round trips cost $3 and out-of-town trips cost $4. (Sorry, Foxwoods is a little too far.) Call Stacey at (978) 448-1170 for a ride.
