Fire Department receives grant for firefighter boots

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

AYER — The Fire Department was awarded a $6,666 grant from the United States Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service, for the purchase of Wildland Firefighting Boots.

The grant, written by Capt. Paul Fillerbrown and Lisa White, will outfit each full-time and call firefighter with the proper footwear for fighting forest fires.

“We’re trying to apply for every grant we can,” Fire Chief Robert Pedrazzi said. “Even the little ones can add up.”

The town’s matching share of the grant, 10 percent or $666, will come out of the Turnout-Gear line item in the Fire Department’s 2009 budget. –Gayle Simone
