AYER — The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved two reserve fund transfer request for unexpected electric bills for the Department of Public Works and Fire Department.

DPW Superintendent Michael Madigan requested a $5,200 transfer from the reserve fund to cover the June billing of the town’s street lighting.

“This is a direct reflection in the increase in utility rates,” Madigan said.

Fire Chief Robert Pedrazzi ran into a similar situation when he received his June electric bill for the fire station, totaling $2,210.

“I originally thought it was going to go on next year’s budget but it came sooner than I thought,” Pedrazzi said. “I thought I was going to get by but unfortunately I can’t.”

The selectmen also approved a transfer of $10,000 to be moved from the construction category of the 2006 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) budget to the design category.

The board originally approved the request which was in turn forwarded to Boston for final approval. — Gayle Simone
