AYER — The town of Ayer will be changing from twice-yearly to quarterly bills starting in July.

The Real Estate bills will go out sometime in June. The first payment will be due on August 1, 2008.

Taxpayers will receive two separate bills this quarter; one to send with payment for August 1 and one to save to send by Nov. 3 (because of the weekend.)

This will be an estimated bill based on the bill for 2007. The actual rate will be set for the bills in the third and fourth quarters.

Taxpayers will again get two separate bills; the first will go out in January and be due Feb. 1, and the second will go out in April and be due May 1.

The main reason for this change is to bring revenue into the town treasury more quickly. The other purpose is to enable taxpayers to make smaller payments, which is more convenient for many people.
