I am responding to the portion of the article which starts with “shall the Town of Pepperell be allowed to asses an additional, etc.”

I was at town meeting for the purpose of learning why this override was so important. I was informed by a parent that “China is an up and coming nation,” and she wanted her student to learn Chinese. Mmmmm, since China is holding most of the U.S. debt I didn’t learn anything from that.

But now I fully understand where the million dollars should go, it was nice of her to tell me, and by the vote others agreed. Acton, which has about one-third of its residents who are of Chinese background, is just putting that language in the schools.

In Sunday’s Globe there was an article about some of the accomplishments of the Pepperell students from North Middlesex (they don’t speak Chinese). I suggest that all parents who want their students to learn Chinese to group together and hire a tutor (I am sure their children are already A-plus proficient in English), thus saving the million for something essential to the whole town.
