DEVENS — The Bromfield softball team took control in the top of the first inning and rolled to a 19-3 win over Parker, in a contest that was halted after five innings due to the mercy rule. The victory allowed the Lady Trojans to sweep the season series from the Panthers.
Casey Silver went the route to gain the victory on the mound, allowing three earned runs and six hits while striking out four. She was in command throughout and kept the defense behind her on their toes by throwing strikes.
Bromfield jumped on top with six runs in the top of the first. Kailey Nelson led off with a double, before Elise Fleming and Julia Vasta walked. Silver came through with a two-run single. After Emily Reedich and Alli Reusch walked, Erica Adelson capped the uprising with a two-run single.
Parker scored a run in the bottom of the first, but Bromfield came back with two runs in the second to make it 8-1. That score remained intact until the Lady trojans iced the game with an 11-run fourth.
Nelson again got things started with a double. The Lady Trojans took advantage of wildness, getting a number of walks and advancing on wild pitches. Julia Vasta, Maria Vasta and Fleming all chipped in with singles in the big inning.
Nelson led the Lady Trojans’ offense with three hits, including a pair of doubles and she crossed the plate four times. Fleming (four runs scored), Julia Vasta and Reedich each chipped in with two singles.
