Last Wednesday, April 30, the Harvard Fire Department together with Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream and the Catalano Companies conducted a 31-cent scoop night to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Harvard Fire Department SAFE program.
The night, which was a resounding success, include many visits to Engine 1 by many children (and just as many adults) and numerous trips to the ice cream counter. The events of the evening resulted in a significant donation to the SAFE program and were part of a larger nationwide effort that will benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
On behalf of the Harvard Fire Department SAFE program, I would like to thank the following for a great evening of gentle fund-raising and lots of ice cream: Managers Tatiana Olivera (who made the initial invitation), Karen Laferty and David Ravin, who were busy the entire time ensuring things went smoothly; and Chris Sargent and Larry McMahon from the Catalano Companies corporate offices, who also gave their time and energy in support of the nights’ activities. A special thank you goes to Steve and Frank Catalano, who kicked off the night with a generous donation of $500 to the SAFE program. And last but certainly not least, we offer our thanks and appreciation to the Baskin-Robbins/Dunkin’ Donuts team behind the counter who scooped a ton of ice cream and poured gallons of coffee.
