HARVARD — The Fire Department partnered with Baskin-Robins ice cream and The Catalano Companies on Ayer Road for the annual “31-cent Scoop Night” fund-raiser to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).
The foundation provides support and benefits to the families of firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The NFFF will receive a check for $100,000 from the Baskin-Robins parent company.
At the invitation of the Catalano family, the Fire Department also conducted a fill-the-boot drive to benefit the Student Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) program, which it kicked off with a generous donation of $500. Through the generosity of the Catalanos and the ice-cream-eating public, the SAFE program received over $650 in donations. The program is supported entirely by grants and donations.
The Fire Department also let children try on kid-sized fire gear, climb over a fire engine and handle a real fire hose and nozzle.
The April 30 event exceeded expectations. The Catalanos said they scooped all the ice cream they procured for the event.
