REGION — The PAT 2 Mite team played some great team hockey and won their league championship last weekend. Three Gardner teams and PAT battled for the top spot, but the young skaters from PAT came away with the trophy. The kids won a pair of games with great teamwork, lots of hustle and an incredible amount of determination.
ROUND ONE
PAT 5
Gardner 3
PAT won the first game 5-3 against a tough Gardner team. Katie Babineau got things rolling in the first period with a goal after a great feed from Trevor Johnson.
The pair reversed roles at 6:31 of the second period when Johnson scored after taking a pass from Babineau to tie the game.
Jacy Kretas’ nice wrist shot put PAT on top 3-2 before Gardner battled back with a goal to tie the game at 3-3.
PAT owned the last period with Babineau and Kretas each adding another tally. Some great defensive plays by Owen Marr and Kyle Templeton were key in the big win. Jack Harrison was outstanding in the net, making several exceptional saves in this exciting game.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
PAT 5
Gardner 3
PAT returned to Gardner a few hours later and came ready to play. The duo of Katie Babineau and Trevor Johnson were at it again with Trevor scoring the first goal of the game at 8:06 of the second period.
Jack Wizboski’s turn was next as he put a puck high into the back of the net, after some great moves from the neutral zone.
Gardner stormed back with consecutive goals to tie the game at 2-2, before PAT’s Michael Murphy and Nicholas Joy answered back. Each scored a goal in the third period to put PAT in front 4-2.
There was no quit in Gardner as they scored to draw to within 4-3, but Wizboski shut the door on them with an open-netter to secure the 5-3 victory.
Brady Dillis, Caleb Ackerman and Colin Massidda were significant in the big win with some great plays down the stretch. Jack Harrison was again outstanding in the net and was crucial to the championship victory.
SQUIRT
PAT 2
Chelmsford 1
PAT finished the regular season with a win in a very physical game against Chelmsford. Josh Miller led the way with a pair of goals.
Netminder Marc Frederick was spectacular between the pipes, receiving excellent defensive support from Jay Cobleigh, Zachary Bingham, Brian Walter and Garret Carmichael.
PAT finished the regular season in first place in the Dual State Squirt B division, and they will take on Acton/Boxborough in round one playoff action this week.
