The town of Ayer is embarking on a project to assess opportunities for municipal electrification projects including acquisition of electrical infrastructure, streetlight acquisition, alternative energy options, conservation measures and other energy-related options.

The Board of Selectmen initiative will result in a report to the board by a qualified energy consultant that will outline existing conditions and provide options for municipal electric service, conservation measures the town may employ to reduce energy costs, and means to utilize alternative energy resources to be more efficient, reduce costs and reduce environmental impact as the town strives to become more self-sufficient and sustainable in energy.

The RFQ, issued through the Department of Planning & Development, was issued on April 4 with a response date of May 9, 2008. Based on the number and quality of responses, the town may choose to issue a subsequent RFP to bid out the work.
