SHIRLEY — The deadline to register to vote or change parties for the Feb. 5 Presidential Primary and election of town and state political committee members is Jan. 16.

Voter registration forms are available at the town clerk’s office, 7 Keady Way, and at Hazen Memorial Library. To have a registration form mailed to you, contact Town Clerk Amy McDougall at (978) 425-2600, ext. 205, or amcdougall@shirley-ma.gov.

Voter registration forms can be turned in to the Shirley town clerk’s office or any other Massachusetts town or city clerk’s office. The town clerk’s office will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 16. A person is eligible to vote if he or she is a U.S. citizen, resident of Massachusetts and will be 18 years old on or before election day.

In other news, 2008 dog licenses are still available at the town clerk’s office, Hazen Memorial Library and on the town clerk’s Web page at www.shirley-ma.gov. All dogs over six months of age must be licensed and tagged and have proof of a rabies vaccination. If the rabies certificate listed on a 2007 dog license hasn’t expired, the town clerk has the rabies certificate on file.

Licenses must be renewed yearly and are good through the end of the calendar year. The fee is $10 per dog. For kennel rates, contact McDougall.

Owners who haven’t obtained a dog license by Jan. 31 will be charged an additional $5, in accordance with town bylaws. Dog licenses may be purchased by mail if the request includes a self-addressed stamped envelope — 41 cents for one to two dogs and 58 cents for three to four dogs.
