I would like to notify property owners in the Town of Shirley that there may be an error on the printed valuation of the Fiscal Year 2008 tax bills of some properties in the town. The tax amounts have been calculated correctly, but the valuation that is printed on the bill did not pick up outbuildings such as sheds, pools, garages or special features. I strongly urge all property owners to verify their property assessment. Please go to the Town of Shirley website at www.shirley-ma.gov, click Assessment and Taxation, Assessors and go to the Assessors Database. There you can check value as well as all items on your property record card. If you do not have web access or have any questions please feel free to call me at (978) 425-2600, ext. 210. Again, I want to state, this will not change your tax amount; the tax amount printed on the bill is correct. If you feel the property is overvalued you may apply for an abatement on the valuation with the Assessors.

Holly J. Haase

Collector, town of Shirley
