AYER — The Board of Selectmen has decided to return all election polling to Town Hall beginning with the Primary Presidential Election to be held Feb. 5.
The polls at Town Hall, which is handicapped accessible, will be open that day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., said Town Clerk Ann Callahan.
Voters will be able to park in designated spaces in the Town Hall parking lot at the rear of the building, on Main Street in the front and on Columbia Street.
Voters will cast their ballots in Great Hall on the second floor.
Police will also enforce the 15-minute parking time limit, said Callahan.
The last day for registration to vote in the primary is Jan. 16, said Callahan. The Town Hall will be open until 8 p.m. that day as well. Voters can obtain absentee ballots at Town Hall until Feb. 4 at noon, she added.
Callahan noted that voters must return absentee ballots to the town clerk’s office by February 5.
Balloting will be open to all registered voters.
The selectmen decided to return voting to Town Hall from Ayer High School for safety and security reasons. To hold the election at the school, it would have to be openly accessible for more than 23 hours.
The administration , faculty and parents had expressed concerns about the security issue, said Callahan.
