REGION — Unitil hosted a meeting for local fire and police personnel to review its emergency response procedures in the event of a natural gas emergency or large electrical outage.
“With the colder weather approaching and potential storms, it is important that we review our emergency response plans with local officials,” noted Unitil’s Chris LeBlanc, manager of gas operations.
In the event of a National Weather Service declaration of a storm watch, Unitil begins preparation for its storm procedures. Personnel are activated and on call, prepared to restore power as quickly as possible. The restoration priorities they follow take into account safety and emergency requirements and restoration to the areas that benefit the most customers first.
A seamless communication protocol is also activated to provide regular updates throughout the outage with media, health care facilities, key businesses, public officials and regulators.
Unitil provides electric service to Ashby, Fitchburg, Lunenburg and Townsend and natural gas service to those communities as well as Gardner and Westminster.
