Red Cross blood drive: Noon to 6 p.m., VFW Post 6583, 491 Main Street; Donors must be 17 or older, weigh 110 or more, be in good health and have not donated blood in the last 56 days. Presenting donors will receive a coupon for a pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. Positive ID required.

Learn to knit: 6-8 p.m., Townsend Public Library, room 2; Learn to knit with Theresa Sawyer and Ellen Duval, for ages 10 and up. Bring a pair of size 10 or 11 short straight knitting needles and one skein of worsted weight yard. Space is limited to call (978) 597-1714.

Pancake breakfast: 8 a.m. to noon, Hawthorne Brook Middle School; Hosted by Boy Scout Troop 81, with proceeds to support Troop activities. Cost $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 or under, $20 maximum per family.

Easy being green: 7 p.m., Ashby Free Public Library; Guest speakers will describe recycling, solar energy for the home and other “green” ideas. Free and open to the public. Call Debbie at (978) 386-2323.

Plans unveiled: 7 p.m., Congregational Church; Come see the plans for the new library and senior center, donated by Sterilite Corp., with architects J. Stewart Roberts Assoc. and Udelsman Assoc.
Saturday, Feb. 2
Winter Gala: 5:30 cocktails, 6:30 p.m. dinner, Townsend Ridge Country club; Season-ending event by the 275th Anniversary Committee. Winter Gala was scheduled for Dec. 29, then postponed to Jan. 26, and now is scheduled for Feb. 2. Snow date Feb. 9. Visit www.townsend275.org for updates.
