After a busy month of October, Sterilite’s Townsend community building project is well underway, with plans for the new Highway Garage, Public Library and Senior Center continuing to move forward.
Last month’s permit hearings with the Mass. Highway Department, Board of Health, Conservation Commission, Planning Board and Zoning Board presented an encouraging turnout from the community. Thank you to the numerous groups and individuals who have offered their support throughout these important early stages. To celebrate the beginning of construction, a groundbreaking ceremony for the new highway garage is scheduled for Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. at the garage site off of Main Street. All are welcome to attend.
As completion of the library and Senior Center design moves closer, we appreciate all of the community input we have received. We will continue to consider and incorporate ideas and contributions into the design when possible through Nov. 30. At this time, we will need to close off community input in order to prepare a conceptual plan, which will be available for the public to view. We will then begin compiling construction documents in anticipation of the permit process, planned to take place in spring 2008. Construction is expected to begin during early summer 2008, with a projected completion date in early fall 2009.
When the project is completed, our goal is to create a village atmosphere, with the combination library, Senior Center and community function hall that will be located on Dudley Road, at the site of the current Highway Department facility.
