SHIRLEY — Dog licenses for 2008 will go on sale Oct. 16, the day of the Special State Election.

When you come to vote, why not stop by the town clerk’s office and license your dog as well? Licenses cost $10 each. Kennel rates are $25 for up to four dogs, $50 for five to nine dogs and $100 for 10 or more dogs.

All new kennel licenses must be reviewed by the zoning officer and/or dog officer. A current rabies certificate will need to be shown, unless we have a current copy of your rabies certificate on file.

Dogs must be licensed each year as required by town and state laws. A $5 late fee will be charged to owners who license their dogs after Jan. 31, unless the dog is new to town or is under six months of age.

Licenses may be purchased at the town clerk’s office on the first floor of the Town Offices, 7 Keady Way. On election day, the office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Normal office hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment from 3 to 4:30 p.m., and Monday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Licenses may also be purchased by mail if a self-addressed stamped envelope is included with payment. Mail-in forms are available at Hazen Memorial Library, the town clerk’s office and online at www.shirley-ma.gov.
