Thanks to Pepperell’s many volunteers on the Fourth

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

The Pepperell Independence Day celebration was held this past Saturday and was a tremendous success! A large number participated in the parade and the streets were lined with an impressive amount of folks celebrating the day. Our second-annual craft fair had a huge attendance this year and our chicken barbecue was once again a big hit. Our first ever “Battle of the Bands” was so well attended that we plan to do it again next year and add a wider variety of music to the line-up. The evening festivities continued with music in the back field which had both young and old dancing the night away. The day was capped off with fireworks, which were said to be the very best ever.

The day appears to run so effortlessly, but could never be possible without the help and support of so many. The Pepperell Fourth of July Committee would like to thank the volunteers, sponsors and participants who made our town’s Independence Day celebration such a success. Thank you to the many local businesses and residents for supporting our fund-raising efforts throughout the year.

Thank you to the Pepperell police for managing traffic, for hanging signs, for answering our never-ending questions, and for being a tireless support to our committee. Thank you to the Pepperell Fire Department for hanging our huge street sign, for checking our safety barrier fence position, for being there to be sure the fireworks were managed safely, and for lighting up the fields during the mass exodus. Thank you to Maureen and Tom Broomall for helping with the safety fencing installation. Thank you to the Pepperell Recreation Department for showing up bright and early to open gates and bathrooms, and for allowing us the use of tables and chairs. Thank you to the many parade participants for joining our parade, and to the “Friends of Pepperell” for running the children’s bike portion of the parade. Thank you to Conway Chevrolet for providing a truck to pull our committee float.

Thank you to Officer Nick Parker for accepting the position of parade Grand Marshal. Besides the things you’ve taught our children through the D.A.R.E program, your acceptance of this honor taught them that their voices count. Thank you to Katie Beal for chauffeuring our Grand Marshal.

Pepperell Music Center was instrumental in making our “Battle of the Bands” such a success. Thank you to Alan and Alex for running the show. Thanks to Conway Chevrolet, Hair Masters, and Nashoba Publications for tackling the difficult job of judging this event. Thank you to Richard Bernier of “Nickelodeon” and Ellen Hollingworth of “As You Like It” for providing entertainment in the back field. Thank you to BFI, who donated all the trash bins and bags located through the town field and back fields. Thanks to Donelan’s for donating smaller bags, which made clean-up that much easier. Thank you to the young Scouts and their families who came on Sunday to help clean up the back field. They came on short notice and were very helpful.

Thank you to Shawn, Patrick and Dan Coppinger for towing our float here, there and everywhere (including the parade) and for the help with cleaning up the field. Thank you to Simard’s Cleaners for keeping our flags clean and to Charter Communications for hanging and storing the flags. Thank to Nashoba Publications and The Messenger for the wonderful press coverage all year long. Thank you to the past members of our committee who continue to offer advice and help.

A special thank you to our families, who supported us all year as we worked to raise the money needed to host such an event. We would have felt short-staffed if not for their understanding and willingness to jump in and help at a moment’s notice.

Thank you, Pepperell — it was a proud and exceptional town celebration of America’s birthday!
