GROTON — Mabel (Bennett) Peters, 89, died at her residence on July 20, 2007. She was born in Lincoln, Vt., on April 1, 1918, daughter of the late Edward and Laurie (Miller) Bennett and was the wife of the late Leo Peters, who died in 1989. She grew up in Lincoln, Vt., on the family farm and was educated in the Lincoln school system. She was married in 1934 and moved to Groton in 1941.

Mabel worked as a nurse’s aide at Ft. Devens Hospital and Fitchburg General Hospital. She later worked at George Frost Suspender Factory as a buckler, Hollingsworth and Vose in West Groton as a papercutter, and later at Sterilite in Townsend as an assembler. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, fishing and hunting. She was also a member of St. James Church in West Groton.

Mrs. Peters is survived by three daughters, Marie Grant and her companion, George Forrence, of Hudson, N.H., Phyllis Peters of Groton, and Barbara and her husband, John Benson, of West Groton; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was also the mother of the late Douglas Peters and Jeanette Lloyd and was the sister of the late Albert, George, Clayton, John, Edward and Walter Bennett and Marie Sayward.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 26 at the Badger Funeral Home in Groton, followed by burial at Groton Cemetery. For those who wish, contributions may be made in her memory to St. James Church, West Groton.
