The Townsend VFW Post 6538 Ladies Auxiliary and the Townsend Business Association will each have tables at the lawn party to be held in conjunction with the Townsend Military Band’s Thursday evening, Aug. 2, concert on the Townsend Common.
The Townsend Business Association will be offering hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and chips for sale to hungry concertgoers. The association will also have a table where information about the TBA will be available.
Fried dough, cold soda and bottled water, and a large variety of homebaked goods may be purchased from members of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Houseplants and VFW Auxiliary Cancer Aid & Research pints will also be offered for sale.
Children attending the lawn party may have their faces painted and play several games set up on the common that evening for their enjoyment. VFW Auxiliary members will be manning the bean bag baseball, fishing pond, lollipop tree and Velcro ball target games.
Concertgoers will have the opportunity to win stuffed animals and numerous Chinese auction items during the Aug. 2 concert.
The Townsend Military Band will open its concert at 7:30 p.m. by playing Miller’s “St. Louis Blues” march and the “Pachelbel Canon.” The “Wine, Women and Song” waltz by Strauss, Friedemann’s “A Slavonic Rhapsody” and “It Might As Well Be Spring” by Rodgers will be performed. Fillmore’s “The Footlifter” march, the “Finlandia” overture by Sibelius, Lerner’s “Music from Paint Your Wagon” and Sousa’s “Manhattan Beach” march will be included in the first portion of the evening concert.
The “Fantasy on American Sailing Songs” arranged by Grundman and “Tin Pan Alley” will be played following intermission. Sousa’s “Semper Fidelis” march and “America the Beautiful” will be performed before the Townsend Military Band concludes its concert at 9:30 p.m. by playing the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
