SHIRLEY — Helen A. (Jurga) Labowicz, 80, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 19, 2007, at her residence.

She was the widow of Frank M. Labowicz, who died in March 2004.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Frank W. and Joyce Labowicz of Fitchburg, and Paul M. Labowicz of Ashburnham; a daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Maurice Wentworth of Northboro; a brother, Stanley Jurga of Shirley; six grandchildren, Matthew Labowicz, Paul Michael Labowicz, Amanda Wentworth, Christina Labowicz, Caitlynn Wentworth and Jeromy Mickey; and two great-grandchildren, Connor Mickey and Abigail Mickey.

Mrs. Labowicz was born in Ayer on Oct. 31, 1926, a daughter of Michael and Josephine (Eisielonis) Jurga and was a lifelong Shirley resident. She was a 1944 graduate of Ayer High School.

For several years, Mrs. Labowicz worked as the cafeteria manager at the Lura A. White School in Shirley, retiring in 1994. Prior to that she worked at the Montgomery Ward catalogue store in Fitchburg and also as a switchboard operator in the Fort Devens office of New England Telephone.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Shirley and was a member of its Sodality. Through the years Mrs. Labowicz, an avid bowler, had won many state and local competitions. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, July 23 at St. Anthony’s Church in Shirley, followed by burial in the parish cemetery. Arrangements were handled for the family by T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home of Ayer. Please see www.andersonfuneral.com for additional information.
