NAPLES, N.Y. — Dorothy M. (Provencal) Smith, 79, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at her home in Naples, N.Y. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Mitch and Minnie Provencal, as well as the wife of the late Charles C. Smith Jr.

Dorothy and Charles were married in Webster, Mass., in 1947 and moved to Townsend soon after, where they lived until Charles passed away in 2004. Mrs. Smith began working as a baker in the cafeteria at Spaulding School in the mid-60s, until she retired as head baker at Hawthorne Brook Middle School in 1980. Following Mr. Smith’s death, she moved to Naples, N.Y., to live with her son, Douglas Smith.

She is survived by her son, Douglas Smith; her daughter Linda K. (Smith) and her son-in-law, James D. Cameron III; a sister, Lorraine Marsh; a sister, Louise Benzel and brother-in-law Richard Benzel; a brother-in-law, Allen Smith, and his wife, Dorothy Smith; four grandchildren, Nicholas Smith, Jocelyn Smith, Keyna Thomas and Karyn (Thomas) Greenawalt; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on July 3 at the First Baptist Church in Naples, N.Y.
