The Carpenter family and other organizers of the ninth annual Sunflower Open golf tournament, held in June at the Townsend Ridge Country Club, want to thank everyone who helped make the event a success again this year.

The tournament is held in memory of Patricia Carpenter, who died of melanoma skin cancer nine years ago and is a fund-raiser for melanoma research. The event has netted more than $120,000 for the cause over the last nine years, including $14,000 this year.

In addition to the golfers, many individuals, businesses and corporate donors pitched in with free or cut-rate services, monetary contributions and donated raffle prizes, including clothing jewelry, electronics, sports gear and an array of gift certificates. The top prize was a 27-inch Sony TV, donated by Hunter Appliance.

The thank-you list includes Grafax Inc., of Ayer; Lorden Oil Co. Inc.; Bemis Associates Inc. of Shirley; the Longhorn Steakhouse; Wal-Mart of Lunenburg; the Horgan family; G.A.C. Homes; Gibbet Hill Grill, Groton; Moison’s Ace Hardware of Groton; G.V.
