TOWNSEND — The Rotary Club of Lunenburg and Townsend and the Friends of the Townsend Library will each have concessions at the Townsend Military Band Concert on Thursday evening, July 19 on the Townsend Common.
The aroma of onions and peppers will fill the air as Rotary Club members grill hot dogs, hamburgers and sausages to serve to hungry concertgoers. The Rotarians will also be selling popcorn, cold soda and bottled water to those attending the band concert.
The Friends of the Townsend Library will be offering a large selection of homebaked goods for sale to either eat during the concert or to enjoy another day. The Friends of the Library will also have some activities for children attending the concert including the opportunity to play the bean bag toss and the magnetic fishing games.
The Townsend Military Band will open its concert at 7:30 p.m. by playing Goldman’s “On the Hudson” march and “The Navy Hymn.” The “Tales from the Vienna Woods” waltz by Strauss; Anderson’s “The Girl I Left Behind Me,” and Anderson’s “The Irish Washerwoman” will be performed. “The Magic Trumpet” by Burke; the “Seasongs” March by Vaughn-Williams, and Herold’s ” Overture to Zampa” will be presented. The “Music From Flower Drum Song” by Rodgers and “The Belgian Paratroopers” march by Leemans will be included in the first portion of the concert.
Prokofiev’s “Opus 99” march and the “Six Little Songs” arranged by Myers will be played following intermission. “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral” by Wagner; Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” and “God Bless America” will be performed before the Townsend Military Band concludes its concert at 9:30 p.m. by planing the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
