HARVARD — The recent resignation of longtime member Mark Hardy has opened a seat on the School Committee. In accordance with state law, Chairman Willie Wickman notified the Board of Selectmen of the vacancy, which the two boards will meet jointly on Aug. 7 to fill.

The position is an elected one and the new member the boards appoint will serve out the remainder of Hardy’s unexpired term.

Official notice of the meeting date and time will be posted seven days in advance, another legal requirement, and it will appear on the town Web site as well.

Residents interested in serving should submit letters of interest to Valeska Ross in the selectmen’s office at Town Hall by the close of business on Aug. 2. Meanwhile, the selectmen suggested that candidates contact Wickman or another School Committee member to find out more about the job.

Other boards seeking new recruits include the Bare Hill Pond Watershed Management Committee, which needs two members, and the Zoning Board of Appeals, which has requested two alternates.

For information about the two boards, contact Bare Hill Pond Committee Chairman Bruce Leicher and ZBA Chairman Christopher Tracey. — M.E. Jones
