PEPPERELL — Alfred DeBaun, 87, died on July 3, 2007, after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Adams) DeBaun, who died in 1988.

He was born in Detroit, Mich., on May 27, 1920, the son of the late Alfred Reuben Guerney DeBaun and Edna (Phillips) DeBaun. He was raised and educated in Irvington, N.J.

A command sergeant major in the United States Army for 33 years, Mr. DeBaun served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was in corporate training for Volvo U.S.A. in Columbia, Md., for several years, retiring in 1981. He lived in Pepperell since the early 1980s.

He leaves a son, Jerry B. DeBaun and a daughter-in-law, Gayle, of Danbury, Conn.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Paganelli of Woodbury, Conn., and Jonathan DeBaun of Pataskala, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves close friends Patricia and Dennis Caraviello of Pepperell.

His and his late wife’s remains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., at a later date with military honors for Mr. DeBaun. The Marchand Funeral Home of Pepperell was in charge of arrangements.
