Two volunteers are a threat to a 9-member committee?

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

It is almost comical that the potential presence of two citizen volunteers on a nine-person committee should prove so threatening to the powers that be — especially when you consider that all the objectors at last week’s selectmen’s meeting are multi-term old-timers in town government. There’s an imbalance, all right.

Further, the town moderator received only two completed applicant questionnaires for the community member spots. If there were “others in the applicant pool,” perhaps they didn’t properly apply. One can’t just cut to the head of the queue with a phone call; a written application was required of all citizens, as was amply reported in the town papers.

Meantime, the only town board that as of last week hadn’t yet chosen its study group reps — wasting over two months since town meeting and 35 percent of the study group’s allotted time to produce a report — is the Finance Committee.

Makes you wonder who’s “taken liberty,” doesn’t it?
