It warmed my heart to see the front page article, “‘An Evening of Remembrance and History’ at Hazen Memorial,” in the paper this morning. Thank you for printing it.

Okay, aside from the fact that I was in the picture holding my painting of Joe Landry (my Mom and Dad will get a kick out of that) the article and attention these guys get is well-deserved. They’ve earned all the good words said at that reception and in MaryEllen Jones’ excellent article. They all put themselves in harm’s way to defend this country and yet they will not willingly call any attention to themselves or the heroic things they did.

Jones’ article also credited Kathleen Farrar with organizing the event and the poetry, which really did fit the occasion so well. We civilians can’t imagine the experiences these guys, as young men, had in combat but the words in the poems came close to setting the mood of war. It was very well done. Deb Roy, Beth Wade and the librarians at Hazen Library just do an outstanding job.

Thank you, again, for the article and for recognizing these gentlemen for their service.
