In response to the anonymous, presumably Ayer, citizen who criticized the program “An Inconvenient Truth” at the fire station last week, he or she should be assured no tax money was spent. The free event was sponsored by interested Ayer residents who wanted to learn more about the issue. Furthermore, it was not a showing of the award-winning film but a live slide/film presentation by Mark Durrenberger, a neighbor from Hudson, who came armed with updated and new information not included in the film. Had the anonymous critic attended, he or she would have been able to raise questions, challenge assumptions, and debate the conclusions of those involved with this subject.
After the presentation, audience members discussed local problems and their individual concerns about global warming, and what can be done, is being done, at a personal and governmental level to protect and enhance our environment. It was a lively sharing of information. That’s how democracy works.
