AYER — Ayer Educational Foundation (AEF) President Maura Feller has been recognized by the Board of Selectmen as the town’s “unsung heroine.”

The announcement came May 29 and was read by board Chairman Pauline Conley.

“As president of the Ayer Educational Foundation, you have exhibited the enthusiasm and drive to create an environment of giving and learning to all the children that are living and learning in Ayer,” she said. “Under your leadership, the AEF has awarded $40,000 in grants to fulfill 46 educational enrichment programs at the Page Hilltop, Ayer Middle and Ayer High schools. These programs have enriched the lives of 1,350 children in the school district.”

The award is granted by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women.

“This hasn’t been done alone,” said Feller. “There are some wonderful women out there behind me. This thing is set up to run forever thanks to the efforts of these people.” — Nathan Lamb
